About Us
Most of the music boxes, phonographs, clocks and other items on these pages are proudly displayed in my home, as they must pass my own standards of quality and aesthetics. This provides our family with an ever-changing musical and horological decor for us to enjoy during our stewardship.
A majority of the pieces that you will see on these pages are over 100 years old; many have been lovingly restored, mechanically and cosmetically, by supreme masters of their craft.
It has always been my taste and desire, when collecting antiques, to have pieces that are visually delightful; my tastes further demanded that they be in fine mechanical condition as well.
You will find neither shabby nor poorly-working (and sounding) instruments offered for sale here. These treasures have been acquired from the most experienced and highly regarded museums, dealers and restorers around the world. For purposes of space and simplicity, descriptions are usually brief; further details and additional pictures can be provided upon your request.
Advice for First-Time Buyers
Many people, especially first-time buyers, express concerns about spending large sums of money over the internet. I did too, when all of this "e-commerce" started in the late 1990's, so my sales policies attempt to answer the same apprehensions that I have had as a buyer.
When purchasing antiques, one must always realize that taste and personal preferences (i.e. original vs. restored) are highly subjective and widely misinterpreted between buyers and sellers.
I try to describe my items fully and will answer any and all questions you may have in advance of the sale as completely and honestly as possible. You should balance whatever "risk" you feel you are taking with the enormous amount of time, energy and money you would spend locating any of these rarities in person... the internet brings them right into your home for viewing with little effort, at no expense.
Shipping
With regard to shipping, we do all of our packing and crating, literally "in-house." This assures you of a professional, caring job, done by somebody who understands the workings (and frailties) of the item being shipped.
After years of experience shipping all over the world, we feel this is the surest and safest way to get the items delivered to your door, damage-free. We use several different, trusted carriers, depending on delivery location, and occasionally personally deliver and set up very large orders ourselves.
Export Packing
All international shipments are packed using materials in strict compliance with IPPC (pest control) standards, assuring that there will be no delays (or seizures) by regulatory authorities. All pallets and lumber, as required, bear the recognized code stamps so they pass through the en-route inspection processes without delay.
Our Guarantee
If you purchase from me, you have my assurance that your complete satisfaction is my goal and whatever you need in after-sale service, advice, etc. are at your instant disposal.
This is a hobby that I cherish, and the nice friends I have made in this effort have made it all worthwhile.
Sincerely,
Raphael Cole
